Cristiano wins for giggsMarch 4, 2007
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to provide Ryan Giggs with the perfect 700th anniversary present at Anfield tomorrow – three points against old rivals Liverpool.
Giggs will become only the second Red Devil in history — after Sir Bobby Charlton — to reach the 700 landmark, with all the indications the Welshman will eventually surpass his illustrious predecessor’s club best 759.
Ronaldo who has turned out an impressive 172 times since signing from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 — freely admits he cannot conceive of reaching such a figure himself.
But he recognises what a significant achievement it is, which is why he wants to mark the occasion by helping Giggs, and United, to a win many believe would just about clinch the title.
‘It is an unbelievable achievement,’ the Portugal winger told MUTV.
‘It is difficult to imagine myself doing that, almost impossible. But it is great for Ryan. He is a great example to all the young players.
‘The best present we can give him would be a win tomorrow.
‘If we can do that, we would be 12 points in front, which is where everyone wants to be.
‘It would take us another step closer achieving our objective, which is winning the Premier League.’
